This creation of this dictionary was led by Dr. Reggemore Marongedze at the Zimbabwe Language Revitalization Workshop, which was held over three days in Zimbabwe in March 2014. It was graciously hosted by the African Languages Research Institute, University of Zimbabwe, in Harare, Zimbabwe. Dr. Marongedze is currently a Post-Doctoral Researcher, Zimbabwe, at Living Tongues Institute for Endangered Languages, as well as a Lecturer in the Department of African Languages and Literature, University of Zimbabwe.

In 2022, Sekai Goche took the lead for the development of the dictionary and conducted fieldwork and video recordings.
